Candle Care Guide

Handmade candles burn differently than mass-produced candles, especially those made with natural wax

Before Your First Burn

  • Trim the wood wick to approximately 1/8”–3/16” before lighting
  • Remove any loose burnt wood from previous burns
  • Place candle on a heat-safe, stable surface
  • Keep away from drafts, fans, vents, pets, and children

The First Burn Matters Most

Your first burn helps set the candle’s wax memory.

Allow the melted wax pool to reach close to the edges of the vessel during the first burn whenever possible. This helps reduce tunneling and promotes a more even burn throughout the life of the candle.

For our 4oz candles, this typically takes approximately 1–2 hours depending on room conditions.

Wood Wick Care

Wood wicks burn differently than traditional cotton wicks.

If your wick goes out:

  • Allow candle to cool
  • Trim away excess burnt wood
  • Relight carefully

A shorter wood wick often performs better than a long wick.

You may notice:

  • Crackling sounds
  • Softer flames
  • Natural variations in flame height

These are normal characteristics of wood wick candles.

Burn Time Recommendations

For best performance:

  • Do not burn longer than 3–4 hours at a time
  • Allow candle to cool fully before relighting
  • Stop burning when approximately 1/2 inch of wax remains

Over burning may cause excess heat, soot, or vessel stress.

Natural Wax Appearance

Because our candles are handmade using natural wax blends, you may notice:

  • Frosting
  • Slight discoloration
  • Uneven tops after cooling
  • Texture changes after burning
  • Wet spots or adhesion changes
  • Minor surface imperfections

These are completely normal and do not affect the quality or safety of your candle.

Unlike mass-produced paraffin candles, natural waxes often change appearance throughout use.

Scent Throw Expectations

Handmade candles often provide a softer, more natural scent experience than heavily manufactured store candles.

Scent strength may vary depending on:

  • Room size
  • Airflow
  • Burn time
  • Fragrance blend
  • Cure time
  • Individual scent sensitivity

Our 4oz candles are ideal for:

  • Bedrooms
  • Bathrooms
  • Offices
  • Smaller cozy spaces

For customers unsure about scent preferences, we recommend trying wax melts or smaller products before purchasing larger candles.

Safety Reminders

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended
  • Keep away from flammable objects
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets
  • Never move a candle while wax is melted
  • Vessel may become hot during use

Always burn responsibly.

Handmade With Intention
